The services provided assist authors of all calibers who desire to have their texts polished.

Are editing and proofreading different processes? If yes, in what way(s)?

As used here, the term editing refers to the process of arranging, revising, and/or preparing a text in view of ultimate clarity and straightforwardness; in order to ensure the high quality of a text, the editing process tends to be best-yielding if carried out by a third party – an editor, i.e., an individual other than the author of that text him-/herself. The purposes of editing normally include as follows: (i) clarifying hard-to-process, obscure passages; (ii) eliminating parts (potentially) not suitable for the targeted audience; (iii) detecting and fixing errors of grammar; and (iv) bettering overall text flow.

The term proofreading describes the final stage of the editing process, during which most focus lies on surface errors within a text – e.g., mistakes having to do with grammar and punctuation. In order to avoid wasting one’s time, one is urged not to proofread until one has completed one’s editing revisions.

How long will it take to have my text proofread?

The time it will normally take one of the AWoNC representatives to proofread a text will depend on (i) its length, (ii) the difficulty of the proofreading process, measured in the amount of time spent doing it, and (iii) the turnaround the customer opts for, where shorter turnarounds will be conducive to somewhat higher costs. A discount may apply for a text that is generally well written and tends to flow nicely; for us to establish whether or not you qualify for such a discount, it is important that you submit to us the first three or four paragraphs of the text you wish to have proofread before actually submitting the entire text.

The table below summarizes AWoNC’s proofreading charges per one-hundred words of text, or fraction thereof.

Which style(s) do you prefer?

In his/her own research, the AWoNC representative who will be working on your text mainly uses the American Psychological Association (APA) style. However, either of them is equally familiar with the Modern Language Association (MLA) style. Whichever of those two styles will therefore work.
